Jana Jumalon-Alano’s travels and passions, her ups and downs have built up a collection of ceramic works where we get a glimpse of her scars and triumphs.
She belongs to the Jumalon family of artists and has been a part of many art exhibits in the country — Jana Jumalon-Alano lives in Dumaguete City, a city which has witnessed her various passions in painting, mixed-media sculptures, ceramics and music.
She collects all the clay locally within Negros Oriental and she personally enjoys the process in preparing her own materials. Her enthusiasm to discover, innovate and use the imagination as a tool, is what inspires her to continue getting her hands dirty.
Jana Jumalon-Alano would use earth as a material to mimic the bizarre forms of the vulva sharing identity to underwater nudibranchs, or vessels that can hold life or any shape and form that holds secrets and would vary widely in size, suppleness and magnificence. Her works evoke elegance and sensuality that she tries to give a shape or form.
