It was a bustling Sunday morning despite the scheduled power outage, as participants of the “Makig-uban sa Threadmarks” live sketching workshop met up at the Paunay Sunday Market at the Valencia Town Plaza last 01 March 2026.
Exhibiting artist and frequent Valencia Plaza sketcher himself, Rey Labarento guided the participants through several phases, beginning with a live sketching demonstration by the artist. Everyone was asked to do a sketch of the Paunay, but with a specific top view. After some refreshments at Cafe Mystica, the participants were challenged to find their preferred subjects, and after the alloted time, came back to the meeting spot.
Each participant went up shared their thoughts about their work, some being more technical, and some more anecdotal, but everyone had a great time exploring with graphite on paper! Labarento also gave tips and insights as they came up, and as a souvenir gave each attendee a pigeon drawing he himself made at the plaza!
