Valencia, Negros Oriental – Last October 5, 2024, Saturday, Mugna Gallery hosted Layers: Dissecting the Filipiniana, a workshop and talk by fashion designer and visual artist Dan DVRAN — an extension of his solo exhibition, “Whatever Purifies You is the Right Path.” An interest in Filipiniana informs both DVRAN’s fashion and artistic practice, making the workshop and talk a means of sharing this knowledge and passion with the community.
Held on the main gallery floor, and the artist guided guests through the visual evolution of the traje de mestiza while surrounded by his paintings. After the talk, the workshop covered a method of folding the pañuelo, an iconic piece of the Filipiniana dress. Lively and enthusiastic participants were instructed fold by fold, and each took their own folded pañuelo with them after the workshop concluded.
Aside from the guests who signed up for the workshop, students from St. Paul University’s Arts Society and the Silliman University Fine Arts Department were in attendance. It was an animated afternoon of learning and reacquainting with an important part of material Philippine history, and Mugna Gallery looks forward to hosting more of these events.
