July 27, 2024 — There might have been some rain, but it didn’t stop our locals from dropping by the opening reception of SIGMA, the first solo exhibition by one of Dumaguete’s creative daughters, Alta Jia.
It was an evening of art and bonds, as Jia’s exemplary art was on showcase in not just one but three mediums — graphite, indian ink, and acrylic painting — but all showing a consistency of skill and technique.
Centered on explorations of the body and self, she illustrates the connection between how we see ourselves and how the world sees us, specifically through the female nude, but unburdened by the shackles and prejudice of traditional thought.
Relationships, old and new, were alive that evening, as friends and family showed their support. For sure there were many new discoveries and friendships that night.
